Dr. Priya Selvaraj assisted by her mother Dr. Kamala Selvaraj delivered the first frozen egg baby to a 29 year old woman at GG Hospital Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The baby boy weighed 2.5 kgs. The egg, cryopreserved, or stored frozen at sub-zero temperatures, thawed, and using the Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection procedure, integrated with the sperm. Slow egg fertilization or Cryopresservation is a process where cells or whole tissues are preserved by cooling to low sub-zero temperatures. The aim is to preserve the structural integrity of the cell throughout the Cryopresservation process.
