Biggest Baingan Bharta weighed 342.5 kgs and was prepared by the activists of Greenpeace India along with Le Meridian chefs and students of the International Institute of Hotel Management on September 6, 2011 at Dilli Haat.The record attempt was made in presence of India Book of Records Invigilator. It was done to protest government’s proposal to table the Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI) Bill 2011 in the current session of Parliament that would promote the cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops in the country. A portion of the Bharta, along with a petition with over 100,000 signatures, was handed over to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by a delegation of citizens endorsing non-genetically modified food.
